Service

Minor: Visual Arts Studio
Q: What are the duties of your position?
A: Honestly Service is the single most hardest job on e-board, but also the single most rewarding job there is. We have to maintain constant communications with other organizations that we are volunteering with and we also have to deal with the members of the fraternity. Members may think that it it really easy to just post up any service project on the calendar, but what they dont know is that before any of the projects are posted we have already contacted the organization and asked them all the basics of the event and how many volunteers will be need, etc. A major requirement for this position is that we have to create/host two major service projects in order to stay in good standing as a chapter of Alpha Phi Omega. One is National Service Week and Youth Service Day, if we fail to plan a project for these two events the chapter will go into bad standing. We also have other side projects that Rho Pi does: Operation Santa and Oxfam, a new one this year is the Senior Citizen Banquet/Prom during Valentines Day. Being the Service VP or the Service Sec is a lot of work to take one but we represent what this Fraternity is founded upon, that is to Serve. This positions best understands that we are first and foremost a Service Fraternity and we take pride and honor in what we do for the chapter, campus, community, and the nation.
Q: What’s the best part of your position?
A: There really isn’t a position as rewarding as service in Alpha Phi Omega. The Best part about my job is knowing that every successful service project that goes through we are making a difference in the chapter, campus, community, and nation. Although it might be small and you cant see the immediate impact that it has right now we are making a difference, just like the story about the Tortoise and the Hare, “slow and steady wins the race.” Also, getting to plan the large service projects and working hard towards a project we put together is amazing!
