What are namesakes?
Namesakes are alumni whom pledge classes are named after for their contributions to the fraternity. For example, in addition to being known as “Alpha Lambda” class, they can also be known as the “Richard Lee” class since he is their namesake. Fall Class namesakes are selected by the National Office, while Winter Class namesakes are selected by Rho Pi. Starting in 2005, namesakes for the winter pledge class were selected by the general body usually during winter quarter before the winter pledge class installs. Since 2008, namesakes have been selected from only Rho Pi alumni.
